A pair of serpentine front dressers by Samuel Marx, Chicago, USA, Circa 1950. These quietly opulent chests by American architect and designer Samuel Marx (1885-1964) feature four deep drawers, each in original griege lacquer wtih alternating bright silver-leaf (aluminum metal leaf) drawers. Case and drawer fronts in mahogany, drawer interiors dovetailed in white oak. Made by Quigley. Chests purchased by previous owner from 1325 North Astor Street in Chicago. Provenance available. Each chest in excellent original condition, repolished.

The drawer interiors are fitted with various removable trays for jewelry etc. In excellent condition, finish restored, leather and bronze original.

A pair of smoked mirror one-door cabinets with circa 1930s hand-painted eglomise panel mounted doors. Each panel features a Chinoiserie equestrian horse fully bridled in naturalistic Asian setting, probably American. The cabinet cases are contemporary made to match in dark smoked mirror. Each cabinet with black matte interior and one shelf. All in perfect condition.

Contemporary with circa 1930's doors.

A pair gilt dressers and mirrors by James Mont, c. 1950s. The dressers have an undercoat mixture of crimson and black that permeates through a thin layer of antiqued gold metal leaf. A gilt bamboo appliqué and molding graces the top panels on the front, left and right side. Two drawers each have one circular Asian styled pull that completes the piece. The mirrors have gilt bamboo appliqués at the top and bottom of the frame; the frame is finished in an antique gold metal leaf with a crimson and black undercoat that creates a warm glow. Small Cabinet by Phillip Lloyd Powell

In the late fifties and into the sixties, Phillip Lloyd Powell and Paul Evans shared a studio and collaborated on many creations. This charming cabinet is an excellent example of the fruits of their labor. Evans is responsible for the iconic fish scale motif, in welded steel and gold leaf, on the cabinet’s gate. The delicate (optional) linen curtain is original and in excellent condition. Powell carved, stained and doweled the locally grown Walnut. The foldout doors reveal their classic red striated interior.
