This loveseat anchored the now redesigned lobby of the Royalton Hotel and when it was installed in 1988 as a commission by hoteliers Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager the lobby was considered one of the finest hotel interiors in the world. The Royalton became the calling card of the young designer and was one of his most publicized interiors. The couch has the cast alluminum horn feet that were a motif for the lobby and was originally covered in a chalk white slipcover.

Designed by Todd Merrill and created by hand using classic cabinet making techniques, this magnificent pair of bedside chests feature a solid oak dovetailed case covered in real eggshell using the ancient Japanese lacquerwork technique called Tamago No Kara lacquer.  The eggshell applied over a custom color lacquer base creates a calcified super hard surface accentuated with solid round brass pulls. As with all Custom Originals pieces these chests have been inspired by the great American designers of the late 20th century and are produced with the highest standards available.
