A Pair of Club Chairs designed by Samuel Marx. USA, 1953. This pair of club chairs were commisioned by George and Sarah Erlich for their completely Marx designed home on South Deere Park Drive in Highland Park, IL. The pieces decended through the family to the grand-daughter with full provenance and original photos available. The club chairs have been reupholstered in Rose Cummings 100% dark-grey silk-velvet and piped in silk-satin. All original design details have been retained. The chairs feature luxurious down cushions on a sleek ultra modern frame that "floats" on invisible casters. The chairs and sofa can be seen in period photos of the Marx designed livingroom of the original Erlich home.

Hand Carved Armchair in Walnut by Phillip Lloyd Powell. USA, circa 1970s. A beautifully proportioned armchair in Walnut with light brown calfskin upholstery. This chair is a prime example of Powell's sensitivity towards wood and displays his talent for quality construction techniques. Blind mortice and tenon joinery and a hand-carved pass through for the upholstered back cushion all display Powell's high level of craftsmanship.

A rare set of six Gazelle dining chairs by Dan Johnson, two arm and four side chairs, USA 1956. Each chair hand wrought and finished of gold colored aluminum with caned seats and backs. The Gazelle line by Johnson was entirely hand made in Italy at Dan Johnson Studio. Due to extremely high production costs, and the intense hand labor involved, fewer than 150 pieces of the Gazelle line were ever completed. This set of six is a rare opportunity to acquire Johnson's elegant and expressive Gazelle chairs, model numbers 10A and 20A.

A unique custom chaise lounge by Phillip Lloyd Powell, c. 1960. This unique chaise has a wooden frame with turned feet and back supports finished in a colorful blend of burnt umber and fuchsia lacquer and silverleaf. The frame, back and pillow are upholstered in metallic silver leather, the seat cushion in purple ultra suede. A rope system adjusts the back for reclining. Powell typically drew his inspiration from his travels abroad; this piece is reminiscent of an Indian palace. Designed for the Berman’s of Allentown, PA and is signed on the frame Phillip Lloyd Powell Made for H. Berman Allentown, PA.

A set of six patinated silver leaf Dining Chairs by James Mont, c 1950s. Each chair has open elongated Greek Key backs, newly upholstered seats in soft grey leather that sit on four square legs. Finished in original silver-leaf over black in excellent condition, designed to accompany the round table listed above.
Magnificent paddle arm chair by Paul Laszlo. Original turquoise lacquer is accentuated with red, kid leather upholstery. This same design was used in Laszlo’s own home. From the Hudspeth Estate, Prineville OR. Documented in “Paul Laszlo” by Laszlo, pg 18. New buttersoft lambskin upholstery.
A classic form of Laszlo’s from the 1950’s upholstered in sumptuous navy kid
leather with a complimentary lighter blue-lacquered wood legs and arms. If
American Modernism was about comfort and class this handsome club chair is
exemplary of its ideals.

Exceptional, unique lounge chair and ottoman by Jack Rogers Hopkins, c.1970. A fantastic example of Hopkins unrestrained artistic expression. Laminated construction allowed Hopkins to create eloquent large scale pieces. Known for combining the utility of several items into one functional form – this sculptural chair incorporates a reading lamp and a book shelf. Variations documented in California Design Eleven by The Pasadena Art Museum, and in California Design: The Legacy of West Coast Craft and Style by Lauria and Baizerman.
